A True Friend
They always told me that every friendship lasts
But now I realize that was just a joke
Because so many people get so close
Only to stab you in the back
And so many people can act so well
You believe it when they say you are the best of friends
And so many people can sneak their way in and out of your life
Before you realize the pain they have caused
There are so many people, who seem to know the words to make you laugh
And the ways to make you smile
But then suddenly they change it all
And when you look around you are alone
They have left you in the dark
They have always told me that every friendship lasts
But now I realize that was just a joke
Because the only ones that are ever truly here to stay
Are the ones who have always been standing right beside us
The ones you never had to search for
The ones who didn’t run away
The ones who are true to what they say
And true to whom they are
The ones we truly do need are the ones who we would do anything for
The ones we know would do anything for us
