Once Upon a Time
The little girl believed in magic
Couldn’t wait to get to bed
Knew it was time for a fairy tale,
Time to rest her head
In walked her mother
To her, a fairy godmother so it seemed
She told her to hang on tight
To the fantasy of her dreams
Each night it began the same
From every song to every rhyme
The words that she waited all the day to hear,
“Once upon a time.”
These stories were never quite the same
Each one a different tale
Whether it was Cinderella losing a glass slipper
Or Jack and Jill dropping their pail
From dragons to princes
To beautiful parties into the night
These stories would make her laugh,
Sometimes even give her a fright!
Quickly, she would bury her head under the pillow
Her mom would say, “it’s ok,”
The brave prince constantly comes to the rescue
It’s always a happily ever after anyway!
Her eyes would soon become heavy
Time to drift off into her own world of dreams
With a kiss, the fairy godmother would bid her good night
With a hug, another “Once upon a time” free of scares and screams
