Once-Red Roses
Love’s like scaling the towering high dive;
realizing how deep you’re in over your head,
and all you can do is pray you’ll survive.
It’s the boyfriend who we know we all dread;
you know, the one who celebrates dates late,
waiting for sales of once-red roses, now dead.
Maybe it was that perfect picnic date.
The sky and clouds stained with the setting sun,
nothing missing, except your soul mate.
But when everything is all said and done,
we’ll toss up our white flags to surrender.
Because like sunsets, love can’t be outrun.
