As I sit here in the cold weather
I think of a place I would much rather be
A place where the sun always produces a warm luminous glow
A place where I can walk to the beach
And feel the warm, moist sand squish under my feet
I imagine that when I am older
I will live in this place
I think about how I will drive a shiny red convertible
To places that most people only see on postcards
And bask in the warm sunlight
And how every day I will go to the beach
With its soft white sand and bright blue waves
And splash around in the cool, refreshing water
And I will not have to worry about it getting too cold or snowy
Because here it rarely gets colder than 40?, even during winter
California calls out to me
And says that it knows I belong there too
It knows that I would much rather be there
Not just because of the cold that I feel
But also because I can walk anywhere I want to go
Something that I cannot due where I currently live
So one day, not very long from now
I will be long gone from the town I grew up in
And I will soak up the sunlight in a place that is perfect for me
