The windshield wipers
Struggle to keep up
With the rain
Our hearts
Struggle to keep up
With time
Going by faster than we think
Marching on to a beat
Faster than our own
The music hums
Against my ears
A pair that aren’t even listening
The white dotted lines
That guide us through the night
Tick by like seconds
That see you counting away
Dismissing every minute along
With the hour glass
So I do what I do every car ride
I lay back with worries in my head
The world on my shoulders
Just wishing
I was home
