Dear Friend
Leaving so soon?
Can’t you stay
A little longer?
It seems like yesterday
I said -

Welcome!
Dear friend
Let’s explore.
Together.
It seems like yesterday
I said -

Hello
How have you been
Where have you been
Hello?
Now is seems like today
I say -
Dear Friend
Leaving so soon?
Flying off
Into the air
Its skeletal fingers jabbing at your side

Can’t you stay
The fire,
Embers crackling,
Is warm

Dearest Friend:
I miss you already.

I was inspired to write this poem when I read, "The River Merchant's Wife."
