Elegy to the Lost Soul
The sun had set
And something was gone
You couldn't tell
If you didn't look closely
But there it wasn't
Something missing
Something lost
A piece of dandelion fluff
Just one
Floating
Gone
But of course it wasn't really fluff
It was worth infinitesimally more
But when it's floating away
It's of the same importance
Or rather, the lack thereof
A piece of who she is
Or just a bit of fluff
After it's been lost
It's just as useless
But what is gone is
Perhaps
More comparable to a lost love
Someone you had been with forever
Practically a part of you
But your choices made them walk
Away
Never to be seen again
Yes
More likely
Something as important as that
Or maybe,
All she has lost is a sparrow
Something beautiful
That has only
Flown south for the winter
And will come back in the spring
To sing its song once again
One can only hope
She has lost the sparrow
And it will
Find its way home
Because
Nothing is more tragic
Than a forlorn piece of soul
Lost or dead,
Who knows,
Floating in the wind
Forever
