Eyes Meet
Cold, windy.
My eyes half-closed, my feet barely moving
Somehow I make it to the door.
Relief washes over me like a blanket
But also insecurity
Questioning my worth
A million to one, slim to none
But still, here I am
I step inside that door ajar
From afar
My eyes scan the room
Three, four, five
This is where I belong
This is where I come alive
I force a smile
Three, four, five
Five faces I can talk to
Why not six?
Only five purposes to be
Five signs of loyalty
If not for those five,
why would I choose to be alive
Heart beats like a base drum
Eyes meet, then smiles appear
I look at my feet, can't smile for more than
a moment or two
But what's the difference
Between a moment and an eternity?
If I were perpetually happy,
I might not tell
Until
forever
ended.
