That Room
“That Room” is sorrow.
It’s grief.
It’s that small place that you find yourself
when something seems to shake your world,
where everything is surreal.
Nothing seems to sink in there,
it’s like a smell hanging in the air
you can’t shake it.
and behind it
are remnants of other “smells” from the past.
It’s your conscious weighing on you
continuing to sag towards you like the ceiling.
It’s depression.
A place you can never escape,
a past that seems to contain you.
A horrible place that eats at you
making you feel as if there is a saggy floor
that is bound to break under your weight.
Like your life is like a sandcastle
that is about to get washed out by the tide.
but you can’t tell when it will finally take you away.
You can feel it creeping closer
but you never know
until the wave finally hits.
It’s that place
caught between a rock and a hard spot.
That job you hate
but are stuck in
because you can’t find somewhere else to go.
That relationship you want out of
because you are unhappy
and the few happy moments
never seem to reach the corners of that room
to make life better.
