The 4 Train- Bedford Park
I’m walking along a path,
A path full of snow and ice.
Slowly and warily,
Carefully and gently.
I stare above, straight forward.
I hear that sound,
That wonderful and calming sound.
My worst fear has come,
For I am walking late.
I start to limp faster,
Skipping between rocks.
For I don’t want to slip or fall,
That would be the end of all.
I arrive at the staircase,
Huffing and puffing, all out of breath.
Skipping every other step,
I finally get to the station.
Fumbling through my pockets, I start.
I’ve come to the realization.
Why another great fear.
For now I have to go back,
And get my right to pass.
I savage all the loose change buried deep,
And hope that is enough to get by with.
Finally I am able to make pass.
But I greet yet another stairway.
Fear after fear I see,
A lady, a gently lady,
With an even gentler babe.
I must help her climb up,
For she is late as well.
With great effort and time,
Diving in,
With the doors closing behind.
I have reached my destination.
I have made it.
