The Way Things Are
My name is nobody
You don’t want to talk to me
If you want to be somebody
That’s just the way things are.
Because you could be anybody
At least theoretically
With the right dermatology
That’s just the way things are.
But I could still do your homework free
If you smiled just right at me
Nobody sane would ever see
That’s just the way things are.
The way things are right now,
We’re headed for hell on a crowded highway
And if you want to be smart, kid,
Give up and go home,
I don’t know what you thought you’d find
A friend these days is an accessory
But unless you want to make a living
Giving pedicures to Hell’s Elites,
Run the other way.
And the sad thing is, kid
The way things are
You might just make it.
