Why Am I Still Here?
you told me to wait, i guess
unresolved, said you’d be right back.
it’s been hours, days even
months, years. i’ve lost count.
i knew you left,
not temporarily, and i still
waited, and waited.
a phone call, a letter, a
postcard, maybe.
nothing came.
why am i still here? waiting
for some unreal promise
because i know you’re not coming back.
