Your Smile
Your
Happy
Bubbly
Friendly
Smile
Now faded
Like memories of yesterday
Your smile
Now a setting disappearing sun
Over the horizon
Causing an evening glow
Of lightning bugs,
Lamplight,
And fires
Cracking in a brick fireplace
Your gold-tinted eyes
Sparkling
Shimmering
Once brightening
And uplifting
Is now like your smile
The happy one
Disappearing over the horizon
A grassy horizon
Usually lit by a blinding sun
Dotted with
Fluffy
Little dandelions
And graceful daffodils
Swaying in the gentle wind
Blowing in time with
Silky blonde hair
But something is different
A warning sign.
I watch autumn leaves float to the cold earth
And I hope,
Almost as much as I hope the sun will rise
Again
Bright and bold
I hope tomorrow
I will see your smile
