Forgive Me
Forgive me for smashing,
bumping,
and falling
on you as I learned to crawl.
But without those steps
we wouldn’t be where we are today.
I’m sorry for falling
on the bus
that time and
smacking you against the floor.
You didn’t deserve those staples.
Forgive me for making you
regurgitate facts
about the Mayans
and the Incas.
They died for a reason.
I’m sorry for making you
memorize all that math.
We knew logarithmics
a little too well.
Forgive me for
depriving you of sleep,
but the cramming was necessary.
Did we not ace that quiz the next day?
I’m sorry I made us
jump into the path of balls
coming quite fast,
but you have to admit it did feel great
to slide tackle someone, even if
they accidentally landed on you.
Forgive me brain
for taking advantage of all your skills
and pushing you beyond your limits.
But as your synapses grew stronger,
so did our connection.
So here’s one from me to you.
