Ode Upon A Forest Grey
Trees of young,
Trees of old,
Trees upon a winter glade,
The unspoiled snow sees no footprints,
There is only you,
The color among the white.
For you are its only visitor.
What do you see so far above?
Only air greets you of the ascend,
A tower of the purer green.
Calloused brown makes up your berth,
And silence concludes your birth.
But you are a wiser silence,
A witty kindness, a grand generosity
For a life not your own.
Your green fades to grey,
Dear forest once you die.
Though still you stand,
In a chilling silence.
Once or twice your patience will wane,
And weary you will want to give way.
Gravity, an unfamiliar friend will greet you as your world becomes closer to you.
Only two journeys these giants will take,
The growth into its magnificent tower,
And the fall when one wearies.
Who can count your ages dear grey?
Not by the air you gain,
But by the lines inside you.
We would only know if we cut you down,
And end your silence.
A cruel curiosity for us.
Forests grey,
There is no question why you are where you are,
Away from us,
The cruel curiosity.
Oh dear grey,
Whom I will never see,
I wish not your wisdom,
Your height, your green,
I wish not to cut you down
To have my wish of the spaceless things
Who will not stand when I am not.
I wish only your eternal silence,
Your key to patience.
Teach me so I can learn,
Tell me so I can speak the same way,
Listen so you can tell me what is the wrong.
I wish your forest silence.
Dear grey,
You will never know me,
Nor anyone except who bring you harm.
You will never know me,
Nor me you,
But how I wish to....
How I wish to walk my life
With the blessing to see and never hear,
Hear only the eternal silence
With the sight of the clouds.
