Paper Innocence
Countless faces stare on in innocence
Corrupted by the voice of their youth
But me, I have been invaded
Ruined by the smoke and the ashes.
Breathing is a challenge
And I'm afraid they do not understand
It seems a thousand years ago
That this place seemed like home.
Paper wads of poetry fall from the skies
Words discarded for lack of taste
They were not good enough
And neither am I.
They say misery loves company
But not a soul comes near
No one to cry with, no one to hear me
No one to hold my hand.
As the sky falls to darkness and the stars shine
I hope I die alone here tonight
Staring on in innocence
Hands full of poetry.
