Once and Forever
Dancing out the afternoons
To your wild forbidden music
With your hair
A raging fire around your
Enlightened face
But if I chance
To flick the switch
It all comes tumbling down
With a shout
And out of the wreckage
Stumbling uncertainly
Pulling and heaving
Comes anger
Swaying anger crawling
First lightly then
Climbing over my head swarming
Leaving me shaking
The tremors of my throat
The flicker of the candle of
My soul
Retreat now
Because later I know
When the music slows
And turns to a lullaby
You will breathe
Touch your smoldering hair
Feel the bridge of your broken nose
The shadows 'round your tormented eyes
When the music slows
Then and only then
Will you
Regret
