Redrawn Escape
When silence rings through my ears,
and life to winds to a standstill,
that’s when memories start to fall in front of my eyes,
like the rain outside the window.
Forgotten time drenched with laughter and love,
perfect hours, easy days.
I twirl through a faded map of moments,
a redrawn escape.
They say the present is a gift,
but that’s a lie.
The present’s a project,
a gift for the future.
When I feel forgotten,
when I’m the only one in the world,
that’s when my thoughts reel backwards through days and months
to you.
Like a movie you flash before my eyes.
Stop, rewind, play, stop, wish.
Like a movie, I know it’s not real.
But like a movie, it keeps me hoping.
You’re a blindfold for the hard times,
a cushion for the long falls.
A blanket for the cold,
a fairytale to twine my sleep around.
And now memories rain down on my head,
and I begin to drown in bittersweet
eyes of the past,
twirling to dark depths.
Breathing wanes, until I remember
that you’re only a tattered yesterday,
a burnt out falling star,
a broken dream.
When I thrash to the deep blue surface,
I don’t see your face.
I see mine,
and the future.
But when I feel broken,
wandering a thorny path,
blood coming quickly,
energy coming slowly,
I still remember you.
Forgotten times drench me with laughter and love,
perfect hours, easy days.
I twirl through a faded map of moments,
a painted escape route.
And I fall.
