Tree of Knowledge
The smoke obscures everything
Our eyes are blinded
The only smell is ash
It clogs all our pores till we feel
Like dirt
As the dust settles
The sweet smell of mangos and peaches
Speckle the air
And what have we found?
The tree of knowledge
Serene and pious
A promising figure
For a needy disciple
An artificial light
For the blind
That “magic pill”
For the addict
But here we stand with a choice
To bite or not to bite
All of us slaves
Until we bite
Until we rebel
Give us a path no disciple
Would dare trod on
Gives us the drugs
To bring us so low that the pressure crushes us
Give us a ladder
So we can knock the light
From the sky
Let?s put an axe to that tree

I am curious what you mean in the second to last stanza: "Here we stand.....until we rebel".
So don't go to religion - if we can't bite or not bite then what's left but to reject the notion that we have to do either? THus reject religion?
I love this line :"Give us a ladder
So we can knock the light
From the sky"
Is this an anti-religion poem? I'd love some of your thoughts as the poet about what you're trying to convey.
