The Mirror
When I look in the mirror, I don’t just see me.
I don’t always see a girl that’s happy and free.
For I see hope joy and unshed tears.
Doubt, trust, and unspoken fears.
I see memories, insults, compliments, looks.
“You’re such a good reader.” “Get rid of those books”
The worry, the guilt, the jeers and the scorn.
The pretty red shirt that never was worn.
The judging of others, the good and the bad.
The supporting of mothers, and pleasant dreams had.
I see triumph and glory, goals to come true.
Those eerie, “What If”s, from right out of the blue.
The doubt fights with strength, their battle remains
Envy fights love, its fury untamed.
The hope triumphs all, its might unexpected.
The will stays strong to help those unprotected.
A millennium passes in a minute or two.
What do you see in the mirror, in you?
