The Unlearned Heart
Beyond the reach of my mind’s conception
Are emotions in my heart’s dominion.
My compulsion to love in my heart sits,
Forcing my mind to watch as my heart splits.
Heartbreak after heartbreak, time after time.
Does my heart not learn as my mind does learn?
One would assume that repeated mistakes,
Mistakes that could inspire such dreadful pain,
Would be learned from quickly, and then abstained.
Alas! Maybe my heart shan’t learn at all.
Or maybe my heart merely learns slowly.
No matter, the end result’s still the same;
This love pierces my heart like shards of ice,
Chilling me through before shattering me.
