Petals Fall Away
I gaze at this rose
Blinking away tears
I close my eyes
My singing hides my fears
I feel the stem
My hands cautious for thorns
I skim the petals
Not wanting them torn
I think of you
As I renew my view
And I see the velvet color
And, Lord, I feel it too
You broke my heart
So velvet smooth
I didn't realize
Until I finally stopped crying out for you
Now petals will fall away
As your love did too
And I might cry
As I pick them up
And remember you
