My Own Analysis of Edgar Allan Poe's "A Tell Tale Heart"
Head hung low
You face the truth like a criminal faces his executioner
You’d bleed the reality you chose to allow
Before you recognize the pain you actually caused
Because in your mind you’re safe
Or so you thought...
Your actions
Once just thoughts conceived on a maddening allegation
Were etched into stone as you began the proceedings
Your mind, taking control,
The lunacy of the dilemma growing ever greater
As you watch your sanity and credibility, quickly slip away
The deeper you begin to sink into the concreteness of your actions
The faster the link bridging the gap between you lucidness and aberration
Begins to burn
So finally the corkscrew in your mind begins to tighten
And the exact moment it seems completely wound
Is when you began to unravel
The flame, doused
The high you’ve been living on, knocked down to a padded cell
You realize the sullied window
That you’ve been looking at the world through for so long
Seems standard and completely normal in your current state of mind
No longer an outsider to your own being
But a prisoner within yourself.
