I Cried Today
I cried today.
I cried for those who shed tears like me, and no one blinks an eye.
I cried for those who are hopeless and confused.
I cried for those living in boxes and tunnels on the street.
I cried for those holding out a cup for change and being ignored by all.
I cried because we can see them but are oblivious to their pain.
I cried for those confined to a third-class life because of their family.
I cried because their dreams are impossible and unthinkable.
I cried for those separated from family and home and sent to live in poverty.
I cried for those denied a simple freedom because they are different.
I cried for those being murdered and robbed for their ethnicity.
I cried for those unjustly tried when people lie.
I cried because they might lose their lives in innocence.
I cried for those who can’t afford to survive in illness.
I cried because we know their trouble but refuse to give.
I cried for those who work harder than anyone but are unappreciated.
I cried because they are prejudiced, undermined, and underpaid
I cried for those persecuted because we are afraid of being different.
I cried for those in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
