I'm Running
I'm running
I'm running down a long winding road
My feet kick up the dirt
It hits my legs, it stings
My lungs are burning
They're on fire, I can't breathe
I don't know where I'm going
I don't know where I came from
All I know is I'm running
And I can't stop
My feet are moving on their own
The sun is beating down on me
I can feel its rays watching me run
I hear the cicadas
The whispers of the grass
The songs of the trees
They're all saying, "Run. Run. Run."
I hear a clasp of thunder rolling in the distance
It is saying, "Stop. Stop. Stop."
The dark clouds cover the sun
The heat ceases, no one is watching me run
My feet slow down, I can control them
I finally stop
Gentle beads of rain hit my back
They hit my face
They quench my thirst
I'm replenished
I'm revitalized
My soul is alive
I can finally breathe, I breathe in deeply
I taste the air
It's dense, it's deep, it's cooling
I lift my head; I raise my arms to the sky
I am finally cleansed
It's raining harder
The pounding of the rain is harmonious
as it hits the grass, the ground, the trees
I'm running
I'm running down a long winding road
My feet kick up the mud
It soothes my legs, it's peaceful
I'm at peace
I know where I'm going
I know where I came from
I know
who I am
what I am
what I want to be
I am me
I am going to be me
forever and ever
running in the calming rain
