There's a widely accepted stereotype
Among those with refined taste
Television's hokey
Movies have explosions
But poems are deep

Poems are the deepest thing there is
You don't just read between the lines
You read through them, beneath them, and within them.

If a poem has a point,
Then it is hidden by a jumbled jigsaw puzzle of metaphors
Or shrouded like a turtle's shell by similes
I think it's pretentious when the poems use big words
Is a poem really a poem if it sounds like a riddle?
Trying to confuse me, him, her, them, and everyone else

Maybe it's just me, but I see television and film as the real arts.
They don't, for the most part, get caught up in themselves.
There's an underlying point, but you don't need
to be able to find every metaphor and spot every simile,
To see the gangster go on his latest killing spree
Or watch the cocky young woman trip over her skis
Or help get the cat down from that tree

Though I dislike poems, I had to write one for school. So what's better than a poem about why I don't like poems!
