Rumors
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But words will never hurt me’
Childish lies weaved through young minds
Will the words hurt when they are untrue,
Obscure lies placed before you?
Will they make sense when everyone hears,
And repeats them to every person in sight?
Will they have meaning when the world knows your secrets,
The every refined detail of your life?
‘Sticks and stones’ they chant across the playground
Running wild with this new found saying
They scream it from the slides; they bellow it from the monkey bars
Not knowing its hollow meaning
Their traumatic experiences still yet to occur
Will sticks and stones be of any comfort when your spirit and soul are broken,
Discarded on your once cherished playground?
No
