Shiver
Icy fingers clutch at my defenseless skin.
But something stops it right in its tracks.
It can smell you.
And its afraid to come closer.
Because as long as I have you,
I’m safe.
I’m protected.
You are like my own personal insurance company.
No bad thoughts dare to come near when you’re around.
I am eternally grateful to you.
For you have rescued me from the dark.
My knight in shining armor came to help me.
But fairy tales draw thin.
Like a threadbare carpet, worn into nothingness.
And perfection is as a river.
So now I wait for what I know is approaching.
Not to be a pessimist,
but the end is near.
I feel it; I smell it.
For now I will enjoy this peace.
Because life is just one camera frame after another.
And I know someday you will go.
But while you’re here,
I will shiver no more.
