I Am From
I am from newspapers, from Sony and iPod.
I am from the creaky and colorful.
I am from the willow tree and the long branches.
I am from barbeques throughout the summer and Elsie and Herman and Jorgensen.
I am from the sarcasm and name jumbling,
From “Don’t walk home alone” and “call me when you get there.”
I am from Norway, Swedish dishes and every cookie or dessert my aunt can make,
from the returns to the post office and family trips to Minnesota, the family pizzeria and ice cream stands.
I am from the picture in the photo albums and the history behind them,
the groups of cousins, siblings, aunts, uncles, parents and grandparents,
From the first day at the post office to the present.
