The Percussive Soul
Holding the sticks in your hands,
Feeling the energy flow,
The passion escaping,
The soul jumping out;
Fleeing from its cage.
The colossal crashes of the cymbals,
The attack of the snap of a snare,
Lacerate;
Pierce through the air,
Penetrating,
Engulfing the mind.
The bass drum,
The distinct “thump”,
Triumphant,
Leading,
Charismatic;
Yet modest.
Repetitive;
Yet memorable.
Supportive;
A Guide,
Until the very end.
The Rhythm,
Finally free;
Raw,
Unsuppressed,
Breaking away;
Released,
Only yet to be captured again;
Not by one…
But by all.
