Two trees stand erect

Two trees stand erect
on opposite sides of the road
on different lawns
by different brothers and sisters
the branches of each stretch longingly
trying to cross the road
like water flowing over asphault
never reaching its destination
mimicking are their shadows
but no matter where the sun
their shadows will always fall apart
