Winter Wonder
The sun, bright and yellow
peeks over the snow-covered hill
like a pat of butter
on a mound of mashed potatoes
The world is white and wonderful
unblemished in its sparkling glory
tiny crystals cover the land
like a soft blanket
of glittery dust
the trees are cloaked in white
they wear their uniform proudly
standing tall
swirls of glitter are stirred by the wind
dancing as they fly
from the rooftops hang silvery slivers
of diamonds, glistening in the morning light
amidst the wonderland, the flakes still fall
flitting, fluttering, caressing the ground
each is unique, not one is the same
as another
intricate designs, swirls and loops
Jack Frost's kiss bedazzles the windows
of all the tiny little houses
who peep out from under
their blanket of white
the small pond is now frozen
a still sheet of ice
in the place of rippling waves
the cat tails stand tall and straight
the tips like pretzels in white chocolate
the pines sway in the chilly wind
shaking snow out of their limber limbs
pile upon pile, the mountains of white,
are growing
the sky is striped with violet and blue
and clear as the stars fall asleep
the trees, stripped of their leafy summer clothes
shiver as they stand frozen and rigid
a morning dove coos, the world will soon wake
and the flawlessness of mother nature's design
will be ruined
cars and exhaust will blacken the snow
wide tire tracks will scar the perfection
the people will move too much too fast
to notice the beauty before it is lost
we seem to have too important of things on our minds
to sit and watch the snow fall
soon all that will be left, is the shimmery puddles
a ghost of the miracle we failed to see
