The Long Road Home
Whoso remembers us?
Whoso remembers the sorrow of loss
And the glee of success?
Only us, no one else.
We have taken strides to remain off of the path of failure,
But with seemingly disastrous results.
Years passed quickly
Along with our childhood
Maturity wasn't far away
Although neither was the end of the road
For some the finish came sooner than they hoped.
The dreams gone of a prosperous and fulfilling life
All changed in the blink of an eye
But not for all
No, the rest of us fought on
We fought on with ambition
With glory in our eyes,
With knowledge in our minds
With determination in our hearts
With swift and agile persecution came our trial
And even by our own salvation
It seemed none would let us pass.
But an end is here, the doors are open.
The end of an age of not only courage
But the strength of many
The future lies on the horizon.
We are leaving the only life we have ever known.
Tears will be shed and fall heavy on the ground,
But we will walk on the long road.
