Jelly Beans
Your lies are jelly beans
I can taste your colorful stories:
Tutti Frutti, Cinammon, Island Punch.
You spew them out
like candy,
to everyone you meet.
At first I am pleased
with their sugary sweetness.
I dance among their surprises;
gambol in their yumminess.
But my cheeks hurt and
my smile is fading,
Your jelly beans are
becoming stale.
I am surrounded by their
sticky flatness,
setting in my teeth.
I can taste the artificial
flavor lingering unpleasantly.
You say it’s just me,
but I know their
delight sickens.
I am sick to my stomach.
I ask what your secrets are,
where you’ve hidden the real flavors.
I search for you
among the dizzying colors
Finding only what you hand me:
more jelly beans
