Dreams
Like little birds with oily feathers,
They hop and fly and strut,
But, locked tightly by my heavy eyelids,
Their cage remains shut.
They flit and flap in agitation,
Freedom! The lock's come undone.
They soar away, slip through my fingers.
They leave, I lose every one.
The cage in my heart is empty, save sorrow,
Naught but lacking, melancholy space,
But I know that tonight more dreams will come,
Though they never come to stay.
