Where I’m From
I am from videocassettes;
From Playdough and Windex.
I am from the hot Arizona sun,
Whose bright rays decided to ruin my fun.
I am from the pansies,
Whose silky petals we were forbidden to touch.
I’m from holiday dinners and mass birthday parties,
From homemade presents that meant the world.
I’m from all over Utah and Arizona,
From family reunions filled with people I’ve never seen.
I’m from Sherwin’s family.
I’m from settle down and turn it down,
From go to church and say your prayers.
I’m from fruit salad, turkey, and pumpkin pie,
From the grandpa who died from cancer.
I’m from the cardboard box sitting in the garage
Filled with old memories;
Faces I’ve never seen and the faces I know.
Those moments that make life meaningful,
That’s where I’m from.
