The Simple Things
Its funny how the simple things always mean so much,
A smile, a laugh, and most especially a touch.
The small attempts to make him laugh,
The reason why he knows not half.
A playful shove in the wrong direction,
Makes you feel like you have his attention.
Such little things represent a lot,
So you don’t mind when he puts you on the spot.
You take note when he has a girlfriend,
But you try not to let your friendship end.
With him you see what others ignore,
When he notices that you want to melt into the floor.
You’ve tried to ignore him for days and days,
But you always notice that the feeling stays.
One day, you know, with a little luck,
You’ll turn into a swan from an ugly duck.
And when that day comes you’ll see him waiting,
And it will be you who he is chasing.
