This young black girl doesn’t have the walk down,
Talks with a frown and hopes rumors don’t go around
About the burnt skin she’s in, thick lips that cover her grin, huge thighs that should be thin.
But they don’t see the girl within.

Things become clearer, as the deadly voices come nearer, so she tells the truth to the mirror:
You’re ugly, unwanted, and you’re hunted with this curse
She dispersed from her mouth.
The bottle becomes her friend,
Hoping it’ll mend her soul with each splash of vomit crashing on to her bed.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made they say
As they prayed her life would be changed.
Easy for them they are Carmel brown,
And don’t have to worry if the sun will turn them as black as the ground.

So she goes through life with her head down, talks with a frown, and hope rumors don’t go around.
Praying that God will take her now.
