My Mask

I wear a mask. Not an ordinary mask, my mask. A mask of 10,000 different people and personalities of which none are me.
My mask contains a mixture of my shame and my low self esteem. I wear my mask to school and when I go to church, only to make sure I cover up my hurt.
On my mask I have painted on a perminate smile which no one can wipe off, but in my heart the hurricanes blow and my tears bleed into my soul.
With my mask I have a costume and everyday is halloween because I choose to be everyone else... as long as it's not me.
My mask is glued on tight, I can't take it off if only I could find someone strong enough to some how yank it off.

I wrote this poem two years ago because I was thinking about how many people really show their true selves. I mean with so many people and things telling you that you have to look and act a certain way, why would you?
