Porch Step Flashback MAG
Young spring evening
Daddy on the front step
Watching the sun step
As he inhales his last breath of cigarette
Our dog lazily chasing the rabbits
That force our plants to slowly deteriorate
You can almost see them mocking him
Me and Momma set the table
Awaiting my brother's arrival
Screeching of wheels hit the asphalt
Hit our ears
Softly, Daddy chuckles
He chuckles at his son's small attempt to prove his masculinity
At how alike the two are in many ways
He remembers
When he was 21
And he wheeled into the driveway
Scattering stones in every direction
As his topless red convertible sparkled in the light
There, his daddy chuckling
On the front step
Watching the sun set
As he inhaled his last breath of cigarette
