Thousands of Red Strings
Red strings of fate
Tie us to our significant others.
Invisible threads
Connect us to our soulmates.
But what is this feeling?
My heart feels like
It’s trapped in broken strings.
None of which are my loved ones’.
Why does the death of a stranger
Affect me so much?
I barely knew him.
That’s when I realized.
I’m only human.
My heart knows nothing but
Loving and Breaking.
Innocence and Emotion,
Trapped into one.
My heart signals my eyes
To release what it’s stored.
Not a single word
Was exchanged between us.
Yet, somehow the red string of fate
Had connected us after all.
A red string of empathy
And compassion
And humaneness.
Everything a person needs in a lifetime.
