I Take a Bite Out of the Big Apple
I take a bite out of the Big Apple every time I cross the bridge.
The Red Apple’s evolved descendant rolls in front of me, enticing and shiny.
I reach down to pick up Eris’ gift, running my fingers over the ridges of sky-scratchers,
Breathing in the dust of labor and smoke of yellow taxis.
The subway system is the heart of this city, supporting people, wriggling like worms,
Transporting them much like O2 to various locations within the larger network.
The street carts populate the city like the furry vermin residents exhibit apathy toward,
The vendors patiently await their next customer,
The Tower, struck by tragedy, simply serves as an observation of the city’s past,
The MET stands regal, a temple of art and culture,
The Empire State Building stands tall, a sentinel of ambitions and the “American Dream,”
Its spire pierces the Heavens, the city sprawling below like a tapestry unfurled.
The streets pulsate with energy, powering the hustle and bustle,
Once having encouraged onlookers to immigrate through Ellis Island —
Where the Statue of Liberty’s declaration of independence remains a source of national pride —
To join the mindless masses operating under the illusion of free will,
Taking a bite out of the Forbidden Fruit known as New York City.
