That Was Me
That was me
Underneath the rolling, sapphire sky
In between the bountiful field of flowers
I sit with my bright, intricate designs and colors
Above the silky, emerald grass
That was me
That was me
The golden light on my fragile petals
Between my petals of glory, there is a beautiful pattern of red
Underneath my leaves, there is a bolster that uplifts me
Inside the field I lay in the middle of all the others
That was me
The same me that
Stayed unique in every which way possible
Tried to be the best one in the field
Always forgave but never forgot
Lived life to the fullest potential
That was me
Well, that was me
A dense turbulent in the sky
In the blue midst of the night
Arising above the suburbs
Above the high skies, rolling freely
That was me
That was me
A wild wind
Under tree tops and roaring grass
On top of racing rivers
In between flying kites
That was me
That was me
A flower in a field
A flash in the night.

I originally wrote this poem looking out the window in the comfort of my room. I saw dancing leaves and squirrels playing through the window, but I couldn’t feel the gentle breeze caressing on my face like I would have if I was outside. After I finished writing, I realized my thoughts were all over the place, and I just needed to get it straight. I decided to go sit in my backyard and connect with nature. That serene and contemplative experience finally allowed me to put my words on my keyboard, which finally got this piece this far.
