Uncertainty

Flurries of dissimilar snowflakes drift off into the distance

Silhouettes twirling onto land, each to their own

Destination unknown

Keeping me contained inside its metal exterior,

glass is my barrier to the still openness outside

A heated hum bellows beneath the seats

Disruptive engine rumbles, continuing to rip through

the wind divides, takes a side as we pass by

The booming sound system and boisterous singing

An entourage to endless laughter

Our echo, still entangled in trees

It plows the fields and pollinates bees

Takes me to chocolate chip pancakes,

unwashed fingers in the mixing bowl,

Hunching over homework while

the room fills with rhythmic strumming of a guitar

To go back

Cliff dive into depths unknown

Suppress the freezing uncertainty from seeping through

To go back behind your protective glass

But the water has turned to ice so that time is past.

Locking pinkies, we promised tomorrows

Swore and swore

But now,

Soft crunching trails behind me

dirtied sneakers crush the insignificant flakes of snow

Tamping into nothing

the white sheet was due for a rude awakening

Flurries scream at me from the trees

Beckoning me to go back

Outside the protective glass barrier

I pass through

And let the wind carry me to uncertainty
