He commands,
Don’t even need to talk;
With a simple gesture,
He can mobilize an entire army,
have an entire symphony orchestra play for him,
have the table covered with sumptuous dishes,
have ministers and knights kneeling at his feet,
have women serve him.
Everyone wants to become him,
No pains, no worries, no hunger
Everything.

I am the most gracious among the people,
I am the highest in the country;
“Majesty” they called me;
They get down on one knee,
They put their right hand on their chest,
They kiss the back of my hand.

But where is love?
Where are the love, intimacy, and family
that I longed for from the day I sit on the throne and take the crown?
I could not feel any of them,
but coldness, but interest, but hypocrisy;
I am an island,
Above but apart from the rest of the world.
Everyone wants to become me except me.
A machine, an institution.

The author's comments:

This poem is talking about a king of the country who everyone envies and submits to actually felt a sense of ruthlessness and loneliness. He seems to have nothing to worry about, but in reality, he had lost the most important element of life, the warmth of the human heart. People admire his wealth and power, but they could never understand the spiritual damage the king suffered because of the hypocrisy and greed for money of those around him.

This poem aims to address the theme of the “highest solitude” by shifting the narrator’s point of view from the third person to the first person. The transition from narration reflects the fact that people's feelings and understanding of a thing are variable due to their identity and the role they played in society. Power is a double-edged sword, and those whom others admire may themselves be suffering from unknown wounds and loneliness.
