the puppy-dog-eye effect
puppy dog eyes
make leaves on sycamore trees fall.
they make the sun rise in the east
and set in the west.
they make the knees of every teenage girl
instantly turn to jello.
puppy dog eyes hold
the power of the entire universe
in one single iris.
your puppy dog eyes led to many of my regrets.

This poem is one I wrote when reflecting on a past relationship of mine. People's eyes are the key to their souls, right? But what most people won't tell you is that they are also a weapon. Eyes can be deceiving, misleading, persuasive. In the case of my poem, the speaker is persuaded by the other character's eyes to do things they later regret.
