Sea Shells
You are the seashells on the sand that hide beneath the crashing waves
You are the butterfly in cupped hands that gently beats its wings
You are everything I can’t have, you are gold that's out of reach
You want me for the wrong reasons I want you, you're all I see.
You are silence in the sounds from every love song ever played
You are the beauty in the ground that hides away until dawn breaks
You are feathers, you are petals
You don’t want to be kept or held
Let me hold you, let me keep you, like the sand keeps the sea shells.
You love me like the seasons but I love you everyday
You love me when you’re lonely but I’ll love you either way
You are “almost” and “tomorrow”
But I am “yes” and I’m “today”
You want me for the wrong reasons
I want you to want to stay.
You give me roses, I give you gardens
You give me sand, I give you stones
I want you to keep me, want you to hold me
But you’d rather let me go
I look for reasons to love you
Although I have a thousand reasons to hate
And while you build up a fence, I build us a gate.
