achilles tendon

there’s an infection in my achilles’ tendon
where the arrow pierced my heel
the endless path
i trudged barefoot
the broken arrow dragging lines
in the dry dirt:
my trail
i knew the moment i released the arrow,
and let it sink into the immortal river,
my soul would be lost forever.
i figured i had long enough to see the stars again.
