scarred
i wasn’t ready yet.
2008
thanksgiving day
three
months
early
scars
my mom has a c section scar across her stomach
my sister has a scar across hers too
me and her have
scars riding along our backs
iv lines running along our legs
like the track doesn't end
we fought
we overcame
we are miracles brought onto this earth
but the scars stayed
while the hope came
because the way her shirt creases at that mark
and the way i look down at the scars on my legs
feel the scar on my back
make me
remember
everything that happened
every scar
on me
every nail digging scar
every burn scar
and birth scar
all
of
them
remind me
how lucky i am
to be alive
