MONSTERS

I don't believe in monsters

Wretched claws, pointy teeth, blood shot eyes

The kind that live underground where the sun can't reach

Surrounded in fantasy, fiction, and lies

I don't believe in monsters

Distant screams in the crevices and cracks of the night

Invasive movements shifting and unknown

An abandoned ballon, a discarded bear, a broken kite

I don't believe in monsters

Hidden in the ominous red ink dripping down paperwork

Cast deep within the repulsive orange hue of spilled pill bottles

Displayed in the casual splotches dotting the sidewalk

I don't believe in monsters

The voices that aren't there

People consumed by soil and forgotten by the stars

Broken memories and slanted stares

I don't believe in monsters

I won't believe in monsters

I can't believe in monsters

So no monsters I shall see

For if I further down this path

I'll find the monster in me
